Miguel Angel Machado, age 63 of Houston, passed away on February 7, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vicente & Elena (Rodriguez) Machado. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Lillibett (Ruiz); sons, Ivan & Miguel Machado; grandchildren, Karla & Paolo Machado; and a host of many other family & friends.
Miguel was born on May 13, 1946 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He resided in Puerto Rico before settling in the Houston area for the past twenty one years. Miguel was a wonderful husband, father, & grandfather and the grandchildren affectionately called him “Abuelo Quique”. He worked as a sales manager for Burroughs Corporation and before that was a professional soccer player in Argentina, 1st Division, and was known as the “Quique Cañon” (Cannon Leg). He continued his love of the game by coaching soccer and his team once came in third in the state. If he could, Miguel would watch soccer 24 hours a day. It was his second love next to his family. Many young soccer players were influenced by Miguel’s positive impact and he always encouraged the youth to be as good as they could be. Even after Miguel could no longer get around without his cart, he continued to encourage and coach his team. He will always be remembered as a great player, coach, husband, and father, and grandfather.
A Memorial Service for Miguel will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Clayton Chapel.
Miguel will be missed very much. His outgoing personality and charm always brightened the room. We will always remember the times that we had with both of you and the great friendship. Lillibett you can take confort that he is at peace now and probably dancing, as he always liked to do.
I remember all the joy that Big Miguel brought to his family, I always loved being around him and wish that I could have gotten back to Houston more often.

A mi querido Don Miguel siempre lo recordaré con una sonrisa en la boca, siempre alegrandole los días a los que le rodeaban. A pesar de las condiciones que le aquejaban, y los años que iban cayéndole encima, su alma siempre se mantuvo joven, y su espiritu alegre y luchador, contagiaba a todo el que le conocía. A mi hermano Iván, le acompaño incondicionalmente en su dolor. Un abrazo fuerte desde Puerto Rico, que descanse en paz, Don Miguel Machado.
