James “Big Lou” Anthony Lewis passed away in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at the age of 80. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lewis, and he is survived by his mother, Eva (Duplechain) Lewis; his children, Chris Quinton Lewis and wife Monesha; daughters, Corsondra Lewis Sodje and husband Basil, and Pamela Evette Lewis; his former wife of 34 years, Barbara Young Lewis; brothers, Donald Lewis, Lloyd Lewis and wife Helen, Timothy Lewis and wife Alice, and Blake Lewis; sisters, Jeannie Charlot, Betty Smith, and Patti Wright; grandchildren, Darrian, Angel, Markantony, Mary, Kedran Jr, Milian, and one more on the way, Baby London James Lewis; along with a host of many other family and friends.
James found joy in life’s simple pleasures and in the people he loved most. He enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, spending time fishing and crabbing, and taking pride in caring for his yard. To those who knew him, James was a role model, a hardworking man, a devoted provider, and a steady source of love and support for his family. He also loved playing cards and dominoes, and he took special joy in teaching his children math and numbers. Grounded in his Catholic faith, James was knowledgeable in Scripture and carried his beliefs with quiet strength. His deep love for his family and generous spirit will be remembered always, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for James will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. (4600 Reed: Rd, Houston, Texas 77051) The family will welcome guests during a visitation time from 8:45 AM to 9:45AM, with the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, Texas.
