View Tribute Book Alice Gloria Castro passed away peacefully at her home in Pearland, Texas on Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Maria (Gloria) Garza; beloved husband Leonel B. Castro; beloved daughter Gloria Jean Castro; brother Tony Garza, sisters Elida Martinez and Lucy Montez, and son-in-law Pierre Nys. She leaves behind many friends and family who will cherish her memory, including daughter Anna Marie Nys, daughter Dr. Melinda Jean Castro and her husband Dr. Andrzej Janecki, son Lionel J. Castro and his partner Dorian Vandenberg Rodes; grandsons Laurance Nys and Christopher Castro; and surrogate son Craig Keppler. Alice was a spirited and independent minded woman who proudly and lovingly raised four children into successful adults, kept a loving and well-maintained home, and still found time to read, garden, listen to her favorite music, and keep up with friends and extended family both here in Texas and across the country. Born in Del Rio, raised in San Antonio, Alice and her husband built and spent their lives together in Houston. She met and welcomed people of all stripes with a smile and friendly demeanor and could often be found chatting and laughing with family or friends at her kitchen table, or with someone she just met at a school function or while shopping at the supermarket. Throughout her life, she was steadfast in her devotion to her faith and her family. Her spark and charm will be missed by the many friends, family, neighbors, and acquaintances who met and knew her over the years. Funeral services and visitation for Alice will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway St., Pearland, TX on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Her family will receive guests at the closed casket from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a Liturgy of the Word performed by clergy from St. Helens Catholic Church. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
