View Tribute Book Ashton Peter Saunders, 48, of Houston, Texas, passed away on January 22, 2025, at Houston Methodist Hospital. He entered the hospital on Jan 2 and was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt- Jacob Disease (CJD), a rapidly progressive, unrelenting, and fatal illness. He passed just three short weeks later.Ashton was born February 1, 1976, to Charles and Lourdes Saunders of Winchester, England. Ashton is survived by his wife of 13 years, Danielle, and their three children, Ethan (13) and twins Alexis and Kierra (11); his mother, Lourdes Saunders, of Newry, Ireland; his brother, Charles M. Saunders (Clarisse) of Winchester, England; in-laws Marlin and Mary Kay Shehorn of Russellville, Arkansas, and ten nephews and nieces between the US and UK. He is preceded in death by his father Charles and his uncles Malachi and Barry.He attended St. Peter’s Catholic Primary and St. George’s Schools and in 1994 completed his “A” levels in England. His professional life began in 1994, as a clerk at Winchester Commodities, where he ascended quickly and in 2002 was recruited by Standard Bank and moved to New York City. In 2008, he co-founded Techemet Metals Trading, LLC, which ultimately brought him to Houston.Aside from his work, Ash loved spending time with his family and friends and traveling the world. He was also a life-long fitness enthusiast, completing the NYC Marathon in 2008 and Ironman NYC in 2011. He was an avid Rugby player from ages 5 to 24 and continued to be a supporter of the game and the Winchester Rugby club. He was always supporting and generous to those he believed in and helped many accomplish their own dreams through his guidance. He loved listening to his children play music; he loved music; he loved country music; he loved Texas; he loved America, and he loved the United Kingdom. He became a US citizen in 2018 and was proud to call himself an American. He loved to collect comic books, coins, money, watches, wine, houses; but most important, he collected amazing people and the feelings they brought to him.Memorial services will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 Broadway St, Pearland, TX on Feb 1, 2025. Visitation starts at 1:00 followed by memorial service at 2:00. A Celebration of Ash’s Life will be held at Golfcrest Country Club, 2509 Country Club Dr, from 4:00-8:00 PM.The Ashton Peter Saunders Association of Prion Disease Awareness (APSAPDA), a public, non-profit charity, is being formed to aid in research, education, and support of those involved with this disease and other similar disorders.
