After a life filled with hard work, love, laughter, and craftsmanship, Bruce Laughlin has passed away on May 3rd, 2026, at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Oddie Laughlin; wife, Lillian (Billie) Sm Read Obituary
I spent many years meeting up with Bruce, providing technical support for camera demonstrations and installations at TV stations, churches, arenas and the like, with visits in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. A favorite city was San Antonio. It seemed like Bruce had worked at or sold stuff all over the city. My son took a job at National Instruments after college, and it helped having local Austin advice.
Cousins, sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. We loved to have Bruce visit Wichita because we knew it was going to be a visit to the original NuWay for the best loose meat sandwiches and malts. Since it wasn’t very far from where Uncle Carter and Aunt Oddie lived, I’m sure he had been going there for many decades. It was always fun to catch up with him and Billie. I know my sister Mary enjoyed living in Texas by them. I know they’re living it up together again in heaven with all the other cousins and family. Prayers and hugs for you all.

One of his favorite places to eat! We shared a lot of meals there. I met Bruce when we bought our RCA equipment at KTXH in the early 80’s. Later at Ikegami he persuaded Ikie to split the camera head from the body for the KRIV helicopter. He’s been a great friend and a great inspiration wood turning.
You will be missed by many, my old friend.
