Calvin Baxter Jefferson's Obituary
Calvin Jefferson Sr. was born October 26, 1936 to Welton M. Jefferson and Frankie L. Jefferson in Gainesville Texas, he is the 5th of 9 siblings.
His brothers and sisters called him “Beater” since he drummed on everything in his path before he became the Madera High School Drum Major. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he served four years. Calvin met and married Dolores Owens, and from this union Victoria and Calvin junior were born. After brief stays in Oakland, CA, and Philadelphia, PA, Calvin settled in Seattle Washington where he met and married Barbara Porter on June 20, 1973; there they raised; Rachelle, LaMont, and Tierra.
Calvin retired from the Washington State Ferry System as a Sheet Metal Engineer. Later in life Calvin and Barbara moved to San Antonio Texas before finally settling in Pearland Texas.
Calvin was preceded in Death by; his Mother Frankie, Father Welton Sr., Brothers; Welton Jefferson Jr., (Jean), Melton Jefferson Sr., (Carrie) Ronald Jefferson, (Sarah-Yvonne), Gilford Rawlston, (Shirley), Sisters; Velma (Jefferson) McMurren, Lucille (Jefferson) Ford, (Bill). Calvin’s memory will be cherished by; Wife, Barbara, Sisters; Proncella (Jefferson) Peyton, and Betty (Rawlston) Lyle (Billie). Six Children; Victoria Jefferson, Calvin Jefferson Jr. (Faith), Angelina (Jefferson-Hill) Benjamin (Horace) Rachelle Jefferson, LaMont Jefferson, Tierra (Jefferson) Bingley (Thomas). Nine Grand Children; Calvin Jefferson III, Cristin Jefferson, Jasmine Burgess (Kendell Sr.) Mykala Benjamin, Shakera Boddie, RaChante Brown, Lamont Jefferson Jr., Amari Bingley, Jaden Bingley. Four Great Grandchildren Kendell Burgess Jr. Kayson Burgess, Braeden Duncan, Corinne Jefferson. In addition to hosts of cousins, nieces, nephews, and family spread throughout the states.
Calvin’s love for his family, his quick-witted gregarious personality, classic good looks, and tender nature are traits that are obvious in his successors. His spiritual life journey included several decades studying the Jehovah Witness doctrine. His culinary abilities are renowned with his family and friends, we will also remember him when we break bread in his honor.
Calvin’s remains will be honored by the United States Veterans Association at a private ceremony in Houston Texas. Memorial Services will be in Seattle Washington. Details for the services will be provided at a later date.
