Charlie H. Grebe Jr.'s Obituary
Charlie H. Grebe Jr., age 98, of Livingston, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1928, and lived a long life marked by quiet strength, steady love, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Korean War veteran. After his service, he worked as a boilermaker, a career that reflected his grit, discipline, and willingness to do the hard work that built both his life and the lives of those around him.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, watching football and baseball, and enjoying old westerns. Whether sitting by the water with a fishing rod or gathered with family, Charlie carried a calm presence, often accompanied by his familiar half grin that let you know he was quietly taking everything in.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Grebe; his children Terrell Ray Johnson, Barbara Sparks, Jerry Johnson, Nelda Fowler, and Pamela Parsons; and his grandchildren James Nowlin, Scott Nowlin, Brandon Johnson, and Russell Wall.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Charlene Bryan; and a large, loving family including Joe Shaver, Jeff Bryan, Wayne Owens (Liliana Owens), Aaron Owens, Ethan Owens, Gary Owens, Melissa Sassella (Mark Sassella), Ivy Meyer, Esther Fowler, Natalie Johnson, Brigette Perry (Brittany Nargang), Brandon Perry, Misty Nowlin, Jai Nowlin (Madelyne Nowlin), Sloane Nowlin, Toby Grebe (Cheri Grebe), Charles Grebe, and Richard Grebe, Sarah Wall (Christina Pisciella), Nichole Taylor, Bowen Wall, Baylee-Ann Sue Wall, Riley Charles Wall along with many extended family members and loved ones whose lives he touched deeply.
Charlie was the steady heart of his family—a man who led not with loud words, but with quiet examples. He never spoke poorly of others, and he welcomed everyone with patience, kindness, and acceptance. He was a man of consistency, known for his daily ham and cheese sandwiches, his calm demeanor, and the strength he carried without complaint.
He created lasting memories with those he loved—teaching patience on fishing trips, sharing laughter with a playful nudge of his well-known shortened finger, and offering strong, unforgettable hugs. His home was a place where family gathered, where stories were shared, and where everyone felt welcome.
Those who knew Charlie often describe him as a “saint among men”—a man who took in and loved a large family as his own, standing as a true patriarch. His life was defined not by grand gestures, but by the steady, quiet love he gave every single day.
He will be remembered for his strength, his humility, his enduring love, and the countless lives he shaped simply by being present. His legacy lives on in the generations of family who carry his values forward.
Charlie Grebe Jr. will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
