David was a wise, intelligent, caring man, and one of the most generous people I have ever known. He genuinely loved people and found joy in helping others. He had a great sense of humor, a zest for life, and a way of making everyone feel welcome.
A few years ago, I sat down with David and asked him whether he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and received the gift of eternal life. He told me that he had. I asked if he would be willing to pray a prayer of salvation with me anyway — not because I doubted him, but because I knew that one day I would want the peace of mind of sharing that moment with him. Without hesitation, he agreed. I would say a line, and he would repeat it after me. Whether he was already saved or not, he was willing to do that.
David, thank you for every act of kindness, every act of generosity, for always welcoming us as part of your family, and for the many things you taught me. You had an incredible impact on my life, and I can never thank you enough.
But I will thank you again when we meet again.
With sincere regards and deep respect,
