Dolores Hanna "Del" Thompson's Obituary
Dolores “Del” Hanna Thompson, 79, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Emmy Rogge; brother, Freddy Rogge; and sister, Emily Baker. Del is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Earl Thompson; daughters, Sandra Lee Gangnagel, Susan Clarke and husband, Michael, Rosemarie Speich and husband, Gregory; grandchildren, Colin and Rachel Clarke, Rochelle Chambers, Jenna and Julia Speich; and a host of other family and friends.
Del had a strong faith and was very active in the Lutheran Church her entire life. It was through this faith that she volunteered to teach in the day school for many years and volunteer in her free time to the Faith House. Before moving to the Houston area, Del was active in the Buffalo, New York chapter of the American Businesswomen Association and served for a time as their President. In 1997, Del and Earl relocated to Houston and moved to Country Place where they quickly became active members of the community. She enjoyed all of her friends in her Pinochle club. Del volunteered for many years with and was instrumental in helping start the Special Olympics program in the Pearland area. She was an avid reader and had an amazing thirst for knowledge. Del was affectionately known as Grandma to her grandchildren and she cherished every opportunity she had to spend time with them. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Del’s honor to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
A Memorial Service for Del will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 4600 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401 with Rev. Junfeng Tan officiating.
