Donna Sue King Smith's Obituary
Donna Sue King Smith, 67, of La Porte, Texas passed away on March 28, 2026 after a long journey with cancer.
She was born October 18, 1958 in Tecumseh, Michigan to Donahue James King and Virginia McCray King. She was proud to be raised in Clear Lake, Texas since 1967. She grew up as a member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. She attended Clear Lake High School and San Jacinto College.
Donna enjoyed her career in fire protection as a fire sprinkler designer in the Houston area for over 30 years. She was proud to be a seamstress in her early years.
In 1992 she married Douglas Wayne Smith in Hawaii. They raised their daughter Jenna Marie Smith in League City, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver for many years, Jenna Marie Smith, granddaughter Ava Marie Smith, and dogs Squirt and Tiny. Her greatest joy was her grandbaby, Ava Marie, age 6. She will be fondly remembered for her great love of her dog, her little buddy, Squirt.
She is also survived by her brother Bruce King and wife Katie, sister-in-law Pamela King, Aunt Frances Davis, nieces Tracy and husband Matt, Angela and husband Sumner, nephews Logan and Spencer King, and former husband Doug Smith.
Donna Sue lost her dad Donahue King at age 13 and always missed him greatly. She is also predeceased by her mom Virginia McCray King, her brother Bryan Lee King, and her aunts Jan, Evelyn, and Carolyn.
Jenna wishes to express her deep gratitude and a very warm thank you to our nurse Jenna, who is family, our own angel on earth, for her extraordinary dedication and loving care. We wouldn’t have made it without you. A special thank you to the rest of our incredible team at Essential Hospice. Chaplain Dan, Rusty, Alyssa, Tracy, and many others. We’ll always remember your kindness and compassion.
Please join us for a memorial service in her honor on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2pm at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, 2530 S Broadway Street, in La Porte, Texas.
