Dorothy "Jane" Browning's Obituary
Dorothy “Jane” Browning was born on August 16, 1928, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, at the age of 97. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary (Emerson) Cunningham; loving husband, James Browning; sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Jean; and daughter, Lynn. She is survived by her daughters, Jamie and Kathy, five grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of many other family and friends.
Jane was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend who loved her many pets, flowers, traveling, casinos, buffets and good food. In 1947, Jane and her twin sister Jean became the only identical twins to compete in the Miss America Pageant, a fact which still holds true today. Jane married her high school sweetheart James in 1949, and together they would live in Russia while James had a job there. Throughout her life, Jane owned several businesses, including the Jane Browning Dance Studio in Houston, J & J’s Antique Shop and Tea Room in Gonzales, Texas, and she also raised chickens on an egg farm. She later retired to Pearland, Texas. Jane will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Jane will be held at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland, on Thursday, December 11th, 2025. Her family will receive guests during a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 am, with the service commencing at 10:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
