Eduardo Antonio Maldonado's Obituary
Obituary of Eduardo Antonio Maldonado Please share a memory of Eduardo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Ed Maldonado, born June 13, 1959, in Houston, TX, was called to his eternal home on July 26, 2025, at the age of 66. Known to many as “Big Ed” or “Eddy,” he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Ed was a man of faith, humor, and deep generosity. A devout Catholic, he lived selflessly, always putting the needs of others before his own. Whether you met him at a ballgame, a dinner table, or in a long line, you quickly realized no one was a stranger to Ed. His warm conversation, sharp wit, and knack for pulling a good prank brought joy to those around him. Ed’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, which, for Ed, was everyone he encountered. He proudly grew up as the 7th of 11 children, attending St. Vincent de Paul grade school and St. Thomas High School, where he played football and began collecting the stories he loved to share. Some of his favorite memories were attending Astros games in the Astrodome with his father, a tradition he passed down to his sons. While in high school, Ed met Mattia Russo—the love of his life—at a junior year dance. He knew from that moment on, that she would be the one he would marry, but she would need a little more convincing. Though it took a few years and a mutual friend to reconnect them, they went on to share 39 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, their share of struggles and resilience. Ed worked hard all his life, starting young with multiple jobs and eventually running the Pearland Golf Getaway, where he combined his love for people and golf. Through every chapter, his heart remained with his family. He cherished time with his three sons—Anthony, Thomas, and Charlie—and his beloved wife, Mattia. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: poker nights, Astros baseball, Pearland Oilers football, preparing his famous smoked chicken, and hosting family gatherings. The morals and examples he passed down to his children and grandchildren were rock solid, teaching them to grow in three areas of their life, physically, mentally and spiritually. He always said it wasn’t his job to raise boys but to raise young men and he dedicated his full life to accomplishing that goal. Ed’s calming presence, strength, and humor will be deeply missed, but he’d want us to remember him with a smile. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas C. and Martha Maldonado; brothers, Tomas and Ernesto Maldonado; and sister, Madeline Contreras. Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his wife, Mattia Russo Maldonado; sons, Anthony Joseph Maldonado and wife Brittany, Thomas Edward Maldonado, and Charles Angelo Maldonado; brothers, Fred Maldonado and wife Judy, Rick Maldonado and wife Terri, Bob Maldonado and wife Gina; sisters, Martha Garcia and husband Hector, Margie Moreno and husband Abe, Mary Roder and husband David, Marcie Anghilante and husband Mark; sisters-in-law, Jannie Maldonado and Mary Lou Welch; grandchildren, Alexa, Connor, Hayden, and Katie; and a host of many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knights of Columbus Council 8960, 2320 Hatfield Rd, Pearland, TX 77581, or Catholic Daughters, Court St. Helen #2330, 2209 Old Alvin Rd, Pearland, TX 77581.
