View Tribute Book Helen Louise White Cochran was born December 30, 1928, in Apple Springs, Texas, to Willie Warren White and A. Lawrence White. She passed quietly from this life to the next June 13, 2019 at the age of 90 after a long struggle with dementia. She was the third of four children and the only surviving sibling. She grew up in Apple Springs, Texas, first at the log cabin at North Cedar and then the family home on Highway 94. She graduated from Apple Springs High School in 1947 and moved to Beaumont to attend business school. She married Hoover Cochran in October 1947 after his return from service in the Army and they settled in Beaumont, Texas. They lived in Beaumont and Orange, Texas then Allendale, South Carolina before settling in La Porte, Texas in 1959. Helen was the mother of three daughters, a homemaker, a retail worker, a wonderful seamstress and cook. She loved caring for children, gardening and butterflies. She was a faithful member of the La Porte church of Christ and served the members of the congregation in many ways. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Hoover Cochran and her twin sisters, Madis Cochran and Mavis Giles and her brother Garland White. She is survived by her three daughters Willie Louise Cochran; Sally Hagon and husband Jim; Terry Kornfeld and husband Jeff; granddaughter Rachel Cochran; great-grandsons Michael Arthur and Anthony Jake (A.J.) Gámez; numerous beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. Visitation will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 South 3rd Street, La Porte, Texas 77571. The funeral service will take place Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11:00 am at La Porte Church of Christ, 704 S. Broadway, La Porte, Texas 77571. Interment will take place at Houston National Cemetery, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:00 am.
