He is preceded in death by his parents, Emitt and Levell Furlow; loving wife, Joan Furlow; and brothers, Clovis and Milton Furlow. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, James David Furlow and wife, Janet; Joe Milton Furlow and wife, Irene; daughters, Sue Sabin and husband, Harold; Lana Listi and husband, Michael; brother, Burt Furlow and wife, Janice; sister, Mozelle Scarborough and husband, Larry; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.James was a man of great faith who was active in his church, loved the Lord and whose life was an example for all to follow. He was an excellent provider for his family and a hard worker. James was generous to a fault and felt strongly about giving back to others in need. He loved working on the farm with his cows, tinkering with his machines alongside Jack Briggs and managed to never have a tractor that would start the first time. James was very frugal, never wasted food and never passed up a bowl of good ice cream. The most important thing to him however was family and he was extremely proud of all the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.A visitation for James will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 South 3rd Street, La Porte, Texas 77571. The funeral service will take place Friday, July 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Pasadena, 7500 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505 with Dr. Jon Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
