Jim Miller's Obituary
James Ray “Jim” Miller, 79, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021. James was born August 28, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Raymond Ross and Iva Estelle Miller. The family moved to Houston in 1945.
James’ first career was in aircraft maintenance and overhaul during which time he earned a FAA Airframe & Powerplant license. He then went on to work in the petrochemical industry where he retired in 2000 after 34 years of service from the Amoco/BP refinery in Texas City. Jim was considered a “Mustang” because he worked his way into a role that was typically held by experienced degreed engineers. Jim was highly respected, as both a person and a professional, by managers, colleagues, employees, suppliers, and customers alike.
James was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and riding his motorcycle. James was also an avid bowler who accomplished two perfect 300 games during his years of bowling. James will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Iva Miller; sister Wanda Jean Miller; and stepson Stephen Daniel Gonzales Jr. James is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Miller; sister Susan O’Bryan and husband, Pat; son Philip Miller; daughters Kelley Miller, Shanon Ware and husband, Doug; stepdaughter Ashley Carranza and husband Alex; grandchildren Rhyan Miller, Stephen Carranza, Skyler Carranza, Amberley Carranza; and his beloved dogs, Joe, Jake, Gadget, and Gizmo.
Jim also leaves behind his favorite people at the round table “the coffee group”! Mike and Terri Kiser, Julius Papion, Bruce Laughlin, Walter Johnson, Anne Minnella and his favorite caretaker Danielle Ewing.
A Memorial service for James will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 2:00 pm, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas.
