Jo Nell Farris' Obituary
Our beloved Jo Farris passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of strength, honesty, and deep love for her family and friends. She was truly the matriarch of the family—a steady presence, a guiding voice, and someone whose impact will be felt for generations.
She was honest to a fault and unapologetically opinionated, qualities that made her both formidable and unforgettable. Beneath that strong exterior was a deeply loving woman who showed up for her family in countless ways, always with unwavering support and care. She had a special way of making those around her feel truly loved—from her thoughtful gift giving to the way she would say “I love YOU” every time she hung up the phone.
Professionally, she played a pivotal role in helping run the family business, Farris Floor Systems, where her work ethic and dedication were evident and integral to the company’s longevity and success.
In retirement, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures—tending to her yard with pride and remarkable skill, cultivating a garden that reflected her patience and care, and maintained it beautifully up until her final days. She was a lover of crossword puzzles and an avid reader with an extensive home library, and rarely without a book nearby.
She shared a love of adventure with her husband Ken traveling often to Las Vegas, embarking on countless cruises, and even embracing life on the road in a motor coach as they explored the country together. After his passing, she continued to live life fully, moving to the Bella Vita community where she built meaningful friendships and carried on her love of travel. With friends, she enjoyed memorable trips to the Hill Country, New Orleans, Alaska, and even European destinations—along with, of course, more cruises.
At Bella Vita, she became the heart of the community in her own way, spearheading the “Dining Out” group for nearly 20 years. Through her efforts, residents gathered monthly to share meals, laughter, and connection—something she valued deeply.
She was vibrant not only in personality but in style, known for her flair for bold hats and quirky shoes that perfectly reflected her spirit. Whether she was out to dinner, traveling, or simply among friends, she was always “put together,” bringing a sense of fun and individuality to everything she wore, reminding those around her not to take life too seriously and to always show up as yourself.
She will be dearly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
