John Emil Leffert, Jr.'s Obituary
John Emil Leffert Jr., 88, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Louise Leffert Sr., son, John Leffert III; and sister Eleanor Rosa. John is survived by his wife Muriel Leffert; son, John Leffert IV and wife, Annette; daughter, Donna Royce and husband, Tracy; grandchildren, Samuel, Katie, Timothy, Michael, Kimberly, and Karrissa; great grandchildren, Amelie, Shaye, Tate, Kallen, Braden, Brennan, Dominic and Alyssa; and a host of other family and friends.
John grew up in New York City and lived on Long Island for most of his life. He was an excellent provider for his family and had many careers. John started on a boat as a commercial fisherman at the age of 12. Throughout his life he worked as a carpenter, plumber, and welder. John was strong in his faith and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was instrumental in helping build the Long Island LDS church building and served the Terryville Ward as a Coordinator on many LDS missions. John felt strongly about giving back to his community and was an active Boy Scout Leader for more than 50 years. He served as Scoutmaster, Sea Explorer Leader, and District Commissioner. He was inducted into the Boy Scout Honor Society – Order of the Arrow and enjoyed sharing native American stories with all the scouts.
A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The Memorial Service will take place Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3311 Southfork Dr., Pearland, Texas 77584.
