John Edward Sutterfield Jr.'s Obituary
John Edward Sutterfield Jr passed away in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, at the age of 78. He is preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Alma (Bearden) Sutterfield; brother, John R. Sutterfield; sisters, Camille Hicks, Patsy Andersen, and Marjorie R. Sutterfield. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bonny Sutterfield; son, John Sutterfield III and wife Rachel; grandchildren, Noah Sutterfield, Harper Sutterfield, and Drew Sutterfield; and a host of many other family and friends.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army for over 24 years, including two tours in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, John met the love of his life, Bonny, in Kemah, Texas. John’s time in the service led he and Bonny to live in Germany multiple times, Colorado, Fort Hood, Texas, San Antonio, Texas. His last station was at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, where he retired and separated from the service.
John was a true gentleman with a kind heart and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and provider for his family. John had many interests throughout his life, but above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family and thoroughly enjoyed being a grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for John will be held at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland on Thursday, February 12th, 2026. John’s family will receive guests from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with the service commencing at 11:00. Interment will follow the service with Full military honors at Houston National Cemetery.
