View Tribute Book Jose Luis “Joe” Gonzales, age 73, of League City, joyfully entered his eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2025. He was born on October 26, 1951, in Harlingen, Texas, to the late Jose Martinez Gonzales and Antonia Moreno Gonzales.Joe was a man of unwavering faith, deep devotion, and steadfast love for his family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young man, and from that moment forward, his life became a reflection of Christ’s light. His greatest joy was found in serving the Lord, shepherding others, and caring for all who crossed his path.In 1969, after relocating with his family to League City, TX, Joe surrendered fully to God’s call to ministry. At only 17 years old, he left for Kennedy, TX to attend Bethel Bible Institute, graduating just two years later. With a passion for the Gospel, Joe began traveling as an evangelist, preaching in churches, tent revivals, and special services across Texas, the U.S., and Mexico. God’s hand was evident on his ministry, and Joe also served faithfully as National Vice President on the national board of the Youth United for Christ (Unified Pentecostal Local Churches Incorporated; UPLCII).In 1979, the Lord opened the door for Joe to pastor his first church, Templo Getsemani, in Houston, TX. Over the years, he went on to serve congregations in Seguin, South Houston, Dallas, and Pasadena, always proclaiming the Good News with boldness and compassion. Alongside preaching and pastoring, God allowed him to minister through radio, reaching countless souls with the message of hope in Christ.In 1998, Joe returned to Houston and soon after married Marly Areida Hernandez Sanchez of Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico. Together they answered God’s call to plant a new ministry. What began as a small home gathering grew, under God’s blessing, into El Cordero de Dios Templo Cristiano, where Joe, Marly, and their children have faithfully served as pastors for the past 23 years.Joe’s legacy is one of faithfulness to Christ and love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marly Gonzales; his children, Lanette Gonzales-Tonsul and husband Roberto, Nathan Gonzales and wife Savannah, Evan Gonzales, and Isaac Gonzales; and his cherished granddaughter, Bianca Peña. He is also survived by his siblings Alfredo Gonzales, Gloria G. Gonzalez, Nina Perez, Lisa Rios, and Hilda Valdez and husband Jorge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Martinez Gonzales and Antonia Moreno Gonzales.A homegoing service celebrating Joe’s life and ministry will be held at El Cordero de Dios, 12515 Astoria Blvd., Houston, TX, on Thursday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, September 12 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, TX.The Gonzales family deeply appreciates the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this time. Aceptó a Jesucristo como su Señor y Salvador personal siendo joven, y desde ese momento su vida se convirtió en un reflejo de la luz de Cristo. Su mayor alegría fue servir al Señor, pastorear a otros y cuidar de todos los que cruzaron su camino.En 1969, después de mudarse con su familia a League City, TX, Joe respondió plenamente al llamado de Dios al ministerio. Con tan solo 17 años se trasladó a Kennedy, TX, para asistir al Instituto Bíblico Bethel, del cual se graduó dos años después. Con una pasión ardiente por el Evangelio, Joe comenzó a viajar como evangelista, predicando en iglesias, campañas y servicios especiales en Texas, Estados Unidos y México. La mano de Dios se manifestó poderosamente en su ministerio, y Joe también sirvió fielmente como vicepresidente de la junta nacional juvenil de las Iglesias Locales Pentecostales Unidas.En 1979, el Señor abrió la puerta para que Joe pastoreara su primera iglesia, Templo Getsemaní, en Houston, TX.
