Judith Ann Greenawalt's Obituary
Judith Ann (Korando) Greenawalt was born on March 26, 1954, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Frances Louise (Gassel) and Louis Eugene “Gene” Korando. She was the fifth of ten children and spent much of her childhood helping care for her younger siblings, where she developed the cooking and baking skills she was known for throughout her life.
As a young adult, Judy moved to Texas, where she met the love of her life, Lonnie Greenawalt. They were married for 49 years and shared a life filled with fishing and boating, especially saltwater fishing, and many treasured family stories were made on the water.
Judy worked various jobs before becoming a hairdresser, a career she truly loved. She was creative and hardworking, making wood crafts and later building a successful small business with Lonnie called Hibiscus Country, selling rare tropical Hibiscus plants that drew customers from across the region.
Judy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her son, Chuck, and a proud grandmother to her eight grandchildren. She loved playing games and spending time together, especially around the kitchen table, where her pancakes were a favorite and memories were always being made. In recent years, she traveled to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas to watch her grandson Travis play college football. Whether at a game, in the kitchen, or simply being present, she made each of her grandchildren feel deeply loved.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Greenawalt; her parents; her grandparents; her brothers Robert Dale Korando, who was stillborn, and Michael L. Korando; her sister and brother-in-law Sherri and Richard Wingard; her brothers in law Jeff Greenawalt and Kevin Greenawalt; and her mother-in-law, Marjorie Greenawalt, and father-in-law, Charles Ray Greenawalt.
She is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” Greenawalt and wife Kelly of La Porte, Texas; her grandchildren Clay, Travis, Calista, Kaia, Ryder, Ansley, Cameron, and Miles Greenawalt, along with their loved ones Alyssa, Denzel, and Mahayla; her siblings Larry (Mary) Korando of Chester, Illinois; Carolyn (James) Garris of Jasper, Texas; Mary (Tom) Creason of Chester, Illinois; Lucy (Mike) Phillips of Chester, Illinois; Lloyd (Angie) Korando of Perryville, Missouri; Linda (John) Greenawalt of Houston, Texas; and Patricia “Patty” (Kenneth) Courier of Walsh, Illinois; her sisters in law Arlean Korando of Chester, Illinois, and Carol (Jason) Beal of Weston Lakes, Texas; over 70 nieces and nephews; her special friends Debra and Mike Cotie and Leda and Mike Bruton; and her beloved dog, G.G.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 14 with funeral services following at 11:00 AM at Fairmont Park Church, 10401 Belfast Road, La Porte, TX 77571. Graveside Service will be held at the Palacios Cemetery at 829 12th Street, Palacios, TX 77465 at 3:30 PM that afternoon.
