Kalpana Mookerjee's Obituary
With a heavy heart, we announce Kalpana Mookerjee, an incredible and devoted wife and mother and longtime community member, passed away in Pearland, TX on Wednesday March 4, 2020. Kalpana was born in Calcutta on November 4, 1946 and grew up in nearby Shibpur with her 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and her parents. She went to college at The University of Calcutta where she graduated from in 1966 with a BA in Commerce. In December of 1970 she married Gauranga Mookerjee in Calcutta. Shortly after getting married she moved to Philadelphia, PA, USA in 1971 to be with her husband. Her life adventure continued as she and her husband moved to Connecticut and had their first child, Neil, in June of 1972. Soon after they relocated to Germantown, MD where her 2nd son, Jit, was born in September of 1977. In 1979 the family moved to Troy, Michigan where they would stay for the next 20 plus years. Through that time she raised her 2 sons and enjoyed cooking, entertaining, being part of the Indian Community and being her kids personal Uber, counselor, friend, and soccer and football mom. Kalpana also enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her granddaughter Kiryn. She leaves behind her husband: Gauranga Mookerjee, sons Neil and Jit Mookerjee, Daughter in law Rebecca Mookerjee, granddaughter Kiryn Mookerjee and her sisters Ashoka Chatterjee and Nabanita Banerjee.
Services for Kalpana will be held Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 pm in the chapel.
