Obituary of Larry Don Helton Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Larry Don Helton, 78, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025. He is preceded in death by his wife Karen and parents, Garland and Maradelle Helton. Left to cherish Larry’s memory are his sister, Linda Wright; his sons, Eric Peter Helton, Michael Don Helton and wife, Michelle; daughter Kristin Sue Pham and husband, David; seven grandchildren, and many more dear family and friends. Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family and friends. Larry was so proud of his grandchildren, who affectionally called him “granddaddy.” Larry loved going to their dance, violin recitals, and sporting events, always with camera in hand, as well as playing guitar for them and teaching them chords. After Karen’s passing, he lived for his grandchildren; they were truly the joy of his life.“Coach Helton” also loved coaching and teaching kids. He coached high school football for over 20 years, half of which was at Pearland High School. He also coached varsity girls’ basketball for two years and boy’s sophomore basketball for one year. He coached his kids’ YMCA and AAU basketball teams for many years as well. To Larry, it was about more than sports; his coaching always translated into invaluable leadership and life lessons. After retiring from coaching, Larry continued to teach AP World and European History, also serving as department head until retiring in 2009. Larry was passionate about teaching his students well, leading to an exceptionally high AP exam passing rate. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of history with his grandchildren every chance he got. Larry loved his friends at Epiphany Lutheran Church, enjoyed poker nights with them and playing guitar and singing during worship services. A highlight for Larry was getting to sing with the choir at Carnegie Hall in 2018. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.Funeral services for Larry will be held on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at Epiphany Lutheran Church. (5515 W. Broadway St, Pearland, Texas 77581) His family will receive guests during visitation time from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with the service commencing at 11:00 am. Interment will take place the following day, Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Clifton, Texas, beginning at 2:30 pm.
