Martha Faye Adams
January 27, 1923 - October 31, 2015
Martha Faye Adams, 92, passed away on October 31, 2015 in La Porte, Texas after a battle with breast cancer. Faye was born January 27, 1923 in Huntsville, Ohio to Charlie and Olive Moore.
The family lived throughout the Southwest and Midwest before moving east eventually settling in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Faye graduated from Bradford High School in 1941 then went on to beauty school before joining the U.S. Navy WAVES in the spring of 1943. She was one of the first groups of women to join the service and blazed the way for future generations of women to serve. After her discharge from the service Faye went on to obtain her teaching degree from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee. She then moved to Cortez, Colorado to teach school. It was during this time that she met Gwinn Adams. They married March 22, 1955 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Together they had four daughters that they raised in Cortez. During this time Faye served as County Superintendent of Schools and worked at Safeway and Wal-Mart in several capacities. She was a proud Republican and participated in local elections as a judge. She was a member of the local TOPS organization and was a member of the Broadway church of Christ, La Porte. She enjoyed knitting, tatting, quilting, sewing and reading.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband Gwinn, her daughter Charleen Knuckles, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her daughters Gwinna Schwartz (Lewis), Sarah Zubia (Rudy) and Lois Adams; her grandchildren Sterling Schwartz, Lani Schwartz, Lillian West (Aaron), Veronica Zubia, Brandon Adams, Corbie Maestas (Albert), Shiloh Knuckles, Alisha Knuckles, Justin Adams and Shelby Adams; and four great grandchildren.
At Faye’s request no service will be held.
