My Aunt Lizzie was my mother’s twin sister. I remember how close they were. As children, Mother would take us to visit Aunt Lizzie every day after school. The adults would drink coffee in the kitchen while the cousins played outside. I remember Aunt Lizzie had a quick wit and a funny answer in conversations.
One day they were talking about Christmas as children. Aunt Lizzie said that Mary, the youngest girl, “got a wagon and Helen and I each got a skate!”
Yes, it was during the depression but we never knew if she was teasing or not, she just smiled when we asked her.
She was the last of her siblings and she will be sorely missed.
