Mary R. Georgini's Obituary
Mary R. Georgini, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lena Ragna; husband of 46 years, Bill Georgini; companion of 19 years, Carl Rostek; son, David Georgini; sister, Evelyn Abraham; and son-in-law Gene Beaupre. Mary is survived by her daughters, Brenda Smith and partner, Ed Wakelee, in California; Deborah Beaupre, in Texas; sisters, Gloria Ensign and Joan Ragna, in Connecticut; grandchildren, Greg Smith, in Minnesota, Kevin Smith, in California; Christopher Beaupre and wife, Angela, in Texas; Michael Beaupre and wife, Katja, in Germany; six great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Mary remained active and a model of perfect health throughout the majority of her life. She worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company in Hartford, CT for over 30 years, and was a member of the “Telephone Pioneers”. She also spent countless hours visiting friends at various nursing homes and assisting the elderly around her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Mary continued working and remained active in the community well into her 80’s. As a proud member of the National Honor Society, she also impressed upon her family and friends the value of a good education as a compliment to hard work and a charitable heart.
Mary wasn’t all work and no play though! She was an energetic and charismatic woman who never passed up the opportunity to meet new people and share her life story with them. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing in choirs and choral groups, often infusing them with her vigor and spark. She was a very fashionable lady, keeping up with the latest trends, and wasn’t afraid to try something new. Mary enjoyed her travels to Europe and the Caribbean Islands, however she especially loved visiting Florida in the winter months for several years, with her companion Carl, as they enjoyed signing together in barber shop quartet groups.
She was affectionately known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren and Grandma “GiGi” to her great grandchildren. Mary will forever be remembered for her caring nature and willingness to do things for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Sandra Araya and Susan Ehlers for their love, caring friendship and dedication to their Mom, during the last years of her life. A memorial service is planned to be held in Connecticut on May 31, 2013.
