View Tribute Book Mercedes Perez Olivarez passed away on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, in Pearland, Texas, at the age of 89. Mercedes is preceded in death by his parents, Meliton and Maria (Perez) Olivarez; sons, Juan Manuel Olivarez and Joseph Olivarez; and six siblings. He is survived by his wife of 72 years of marriage, Petra (Arce) Olivarez; sons, Sonny Olivarez and David Anthony Olivarez; daughters, Alice Ramirez and husband Gilbert, Sandra Freeman and husband David, Lala Hernandez and husband John; six siblings; grandchildren, Sarah, Sonya, Sam, Denise, Jason, Hilary, John Jr, and Jackie; great grandchildren, Hunter, Weston, Makayla, Maxson, Myles, Amelia, Maverick, Rowan, and one more on the way; along with a host of other family and friends.Mercedes was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. He ensured that his family’s needs were always put before his own, and they were always taken care of. Mercedes was a true patriarch for his family. He also loved making people laugh and was always ready with a joke. In his younger years, he played minor league baseball in west Texas. His love for sports continued throughout his life, and he would always cheer on his beloved Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed fishing in Galveston and Rockport, listening to music, and spending time with his family. Mercedes will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.A Celebration of Mercedes’ life will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. (5530 W. Broadway St, Pearland, Texas 77581) His family will receive guests from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, and a Rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm.
