Milburn Randolph Skaggs

Milburn "Mel" Skaggs was born on March 25, 1924 in Jodie, West Virginia. He moved to Orange, Texas in 1955; La Porte, TX in 1960 and retired to Hardin in 1991. He passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at the age of 92 on September 20, 2016 at Baytown Nursing and Rehab in Baytown, TX. Mel was a loving husband, father and grandfather and also was a deacon of the Central Baptist Church in Liberty, TX. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He will be missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Goldie Skaggs, son David Skaggs, daughter Bonnie Hayes and husband Walter, a nephew and several nieces, as well as grandchildren Tammy Heger and husband Mark, Michael Hayes and wife Laura, Kristina Platt and husband Keith, Elizabeth Burkland and husband Mitch and great-grandchildren Brett Platt, Sedona Burkland, Colton Burkland, and Jennifer Platt.
A memorial service will be held at the Central Baptist Church in Liberty, TX (3680 E Hwy 90, Liberty, TX 77575) on Saturday September 24, 2016 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would like a donation to be made in Mel's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
