Rodriguez passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by family.Born on September 13, 1931, in Encinitas, California, to Trinidad Rodriguez and Luz Chacon, Rolando was affectionately known as "The Sergeant" or simply "Rod" to many—but to most, he was lovingly called "Pop."Rolando spent much of his life in Harbor City, California, where he began his lifelong role as a provider. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the Korean War. Following his military service, he brought his leadership skills to U.S. Steel, where he worked his way into a managerial role. In 1980, he was transferred to Baytown, Texas, and soon after made La Porte his home.Over the years, Rolando built lasting friendships through his involvement with the California Chapter #1 Rakkasans, where he served as President. He was honored annually by the Korean Consulate in California for his military service and remained active in his community through roles on the board of the La Porte HOLA Club and his local homeowners association.Rolando had a deep love for sports, especially football—weekend newspaper clippings with game lineups were always nearby. He also took great pride in caring for his beloved avocado trees.Above all, Rolando cherished his roles as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Isabel M. Rodriguez; his children Corina R. Garcia, Rolando M. Rodriguez, and Trinidad F. Rodriguez; his grandchildren Christen Browning, Annalissa G. Lopez (Joseph), Henry R. Garcia III (Randi), Concepcion Rodriguez, Consuelo Rodriguez, Rolando M. Rodriguez Jr., Zakkary Trinidad Rodriguez, and Sofia Rodriguez; and his great-grandson, Joseph A. Lopez II.Rolando was preceded in death by his sister, Tillie Duarte; his brother, Jimmy Rodriguez; and his daughter, Monica R. Browning.A viewing and rosary will be held on Thursday, July 24th, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Clayton Funeral Home in La Porte, Texas. A Catholic funeral mass will take place on Friday, July 25th, at 10:00 a.m. in Deer Park, Texas, followed by a reception in the gathering hall.Those wishing to send flowers may have them delivered to Clayton Funeral Home or the Rodriguez residence.
