View Tribute Book Rowena Canda Atkinson was born September 20, 1969 to the late Justino Canda and Bitsayda “Betty” Martinez-Canda, in Zamboanga, Philippines.She was educated in Zamboanga public schools and graduated from Western Mindanao State University with an Honors Degree in Nursing.Rowena accepted Christ in her life at an early age and followed the Seventh Day Adventist Church.She moved to the United States in 1992 and lived in Weslaco, Texas where she started her nursing career. She has been a faithful employee of St. Luke’s CHI-Baylor Hospital in the Houston Medical Center for twenty-one years working as a Dialysis Nurse.On October 20, 2002, Rowena married the love of her life, Myron Elliott Atkinson, and they have spent the past 16 years together.Rowena was a member of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.Rowena “Weng” Atkinson was called to be with the Lord as one of his angels on October 14, 2018. She is survived by her beloved husband, Myron Elliott Atkinson; son, Bryce Justin Atkinson; stepsons, Brandon Powell (Romana) Atkinson and Barrett Elliott (Stephanie) Atkinson; mother, Bitsayda “Betty” Canda; sisters, Donnette (Jun) and Marigold (Ferdi) Ligayo; brother, Danilo (Fatima) Canda; beloved aunts and uncles, in Houston and in the Philippines; and a host of other relatives and friends.A visitation and funeral service for Rowena will take place at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Interment will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens.
