Theresa is one of my closest and dearest friends. She was one of our senior girls at Mater Amabilis Secondary School in Umuoji. Mrs. Bernadette Ifeandu nne. Mokwe connected me with girls from Anambra Division of Anambra State. From that time on, Theresa and I became close friends. We would meet again at the University of Nigeria. Her husband was my husband's lecturer and for the 10 years I worked at University of Nigeria, we forged a great friendship. She knew my children well as did I with her children.
Our friendship did not cease after we left Nigeria for America. Although we lost contact after leaving Nigeria, with Bernadette's help, I was able to reconnect with Theresa and we continued our friendship where we left off. I enjoyed our conversations and reminiscing of the good old days. Since we were both retired, we spent many days talking and texting in the recent years.
Around June, I called and texted many times with no response. After a while, Teresa's daughter, Adaobi, sent me a text saying that her mother was sick and had been admitted to the hospital and was recovering at home. I sent my regards and asked her to give my dear friend a message to call me.
A few weeks later, Theresa called me and updated me on her progress. She told me she had spent some time in rehab and would call me when she mustered enough energy to have a longer conversation. I continued calling and sending her texts without response.
On Monday July 26, 2020, I received a text that shattered me. I learned from Bernadette that Theresa had passed away. I was broken. I cried for a long time, mourning the loss of a great and dear friend.
I only have very fond memories of my dear friend Theresa and her passing has left a void in my heart. She was a kind and gentle soul. I miss her greatly each and every day. My sweet friend, I will always remember you until we meet again in the majestic Kingdom of Heaven.
Good bye my dear friend.
