Vasantha Kumari Narumanchi's Obituary
Dr. Vasantha Narumanchi was universally loved by her family and friends and was a guiding light in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her warmth extended far beyond her immediate family; she welcomed everyone into her heart and home with open arms and was always available to offer help, comfort, and support to anyone who needed it. She formed lifelong friendships with people of all ages and walks of life.
Vasantha was highly accomplished, holding a Ph.D. in zoology from Calcutta University and a Sangeet Visharad in Carnatic music from AP Government College. She started her career as a research scientist in Calcutta and immigrated to the US in 1979 to pursue better opportunities for her family. She eventually transitioned to a career as a computer specialist after earning her master’s degree in computer science from Jackson State University. Some of her favorite things to do were playing the veena, singing Carnatic classical music, and cooking traditional Andhra dishes. She embraced change as a constant in her life, moving with her family to many places across the world, including Nellore, Hyderabad, Calcutta, Gaithersburg, MD, Vicksburg, MS, Jackson, MS, and finally Houston, TX. Deeply engaged with the communities around her, she participated actively in many cultural, religious, and spiritual activities and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
For her spouse of 58 years, she was the second half of his heart, the primary coordinator and communicator. For her children and their families, she meant the world. She was always a tenacious fighter and recovered from multiple life-threatening emergencies throughout the past forty years. Her persistence was a testament to her positive attitude, strength, and resilience. Until the very end, the matriarch of the family remained focused on the well-being and comfort of those around her.
God wanted to assume responsibility for her well-being and took her into His fold. Our hearts are heavy today as we feel the weight of her absence in our home, but are comforted by her undisturbed presence in our hearts.
She is survived by her husband, Anjaneya Prabhu, her kids– Raghu and Madhavi– their spouses–Suman and Jason– her grandkids– Avanish, Anirudh, Eshan, Anika, and Nithya– and her siblings– Sadasivam, Shanta, and Sudhakar.
Om Shanti
