Walter Guy "Walt" Fowlkes, Sr.'s Obituary
Walter Guy Fowlkes, Sr., 77, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Katherine Fowlkes; brothers, Robert and Jack Fowlkes; and sister, Elaine Fowlkes. Walt is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sylvia Fowlkes; sons, Wally Fowlkes and wife, Grace, Joey Fowlkes; daughters, Jennifer Cannon and husband, Travis, Vonna Hamlin and husband, Tim; brother, Jerry Fowlkes and wife, Linda; sister, Clara Jewett; grandchildren, Jordan, Kaylee and husband Jared, Hayden, Chandler, Tabby, Michelle, Chris; great grandson, Mason; and a host of other family and friends.
Walt was a proud patriot that proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was an excellent provider for his family and worked for the United States Postal Service for 21 years before retiring. Walt was strong in his faith and he and Sylvia were active and involved many ministries at St. Helen Catholic Church. He never met a stranger and was always eager and willing to help others in need. When Walt was diagnosed with cancer, he remained upbeat and positive throughout his treatment and was an inspiration to all his family and friends. He was devoted to his family and fondly referred to Sylvia as “His Bride” for all 55 years. Walt will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation and rosary for Walt will be held Monday, November 2, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with the Rosary recited at 6:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral mass will take place Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd., Pearland, Texas 77581 with Father James Courville officiating.
