Lisa Saunders Baugh
W. J. Aubertin was my great-uncle through his younger sister, Rebecca (Polly) Aubertin Saunders. "Uncle Dubby" was a wonderful person, talented artist, and a special kind of long-term Houstonian that is increasingly rare these days. In addition to his well-known art depicting Gulf Coast and Galveston Bay themes, he created many paintings that depicted the Aubertin family's personal Houston history that are treasured by the younger generations. My Aubertin cousins and I have many happy memories of him. The close bond between him and his sisters across the decades - evidenced in dozens and dozens of family photographs - was something special. Although I wish I could have known Uncle Dubby as a young man, I'm grateful to have shared a family connection with him for his 90 years. I know that he will be badly missed. Deepest condolences to Georgia and his church and neighborhood families in Pearland.
