Augustine Ekane Omerhi's Obituary
Augustine Ekane Omerhi went home to be with the Lord on July 3, 2020. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Omerhi, mother, Govina Obukofe Omerhi, and two brothers. Left to cherish Augustine’s memory is his loving wife, of 30 years, Justina Omerhi; sons, Esiri Omerhi, Doro Omerhi, Edward Omerhi and Chris Omerhi; daughters, Ejovwo Omerhi and Alice Omerhi; sister, Stella Omerhi; four grandchildren; and a host of many other family and friends.
Born in Nigeria on July 21, 1940, Augustine attended Hussey College in Warri, where he was on the track and soccer teams. Augustine excelled at soccer, he served as the team captain of the soccer team that was nicknamed “western champion”, and later played for the Nigerian National Soccer team, “The Green Eagles”. Augustine studied Shakespeare and was a big fan, especially of the play ‘Julius Caesar’. He worked as a teacher at Saint Theresa’s grammar school in Nigeria and came to America in the early 1970’s. Augustine received his bachelor’s degree at UMass Amherst, and went to work for IBM. Augustine met the love of his life in 1989, and they were wed, on New Year’s Eve, the same year in Lagos. Augustine was a big believer in family and he and Justina had three beautiful children together. Augustine worked for FEMA for many years as an adjuster and mediator. Augustine was a big sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching baseball, football and soccer. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved telling jokes, and became like a father to many. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services for Augustine will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland Texas, 77581. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 1:30pm. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
