He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Coryat and Ethel Ramdial, adopted parents Irving and Clarita Coryatt, and his siblings, Winston, Marilyn, Wayne and Louis. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years Evarist Coryat, daughter Dawn Coryat-Hon, grandson, Lucas Hon, sisters; Nicole and Joyce, half siblings Angela, Mary, Debra, Debbie, Suzanna, Jennifer, and Joseph Coryat Jr., adopted siblings Patrick, Sharon, Carlos, Quentin, Leevan, and Sean, and a host of other family and friends.Augustus was born in Trinidad on August 25, 1950, and moved to St. Croix in 1969 at the age of 17. In 1970, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam war. In 1973, he was honorably discharged and returned to St. Croix. He married Evarist Escayg in 1973 and immigrated to the US in 1976.Augustus was a hardworking man and expected the best. His favorite saying was “Do it like you mean it!”. He was generous and if he had it and you needed it, it was yours. Augustus was very friendly and never met a stranger. He was a professional long haul truck driver and enjoyed driving all over the US. After retirement, Augustus especially loved driving the school bus for LaPorte Independent School District and seeing the kids each day.Augustus also enjoyed grilling and cooking for his family and friends, eating fried chicken, fishing and crabbing with his daughter Dawn, and water balloon fights with his grandson Lucas. Augustus will be truly missed by all who loved and knew him.Services for Augustus will be Tuesday July 23 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church 816 Park in La Porte. Rosary at 8:30 AM, Visitation 9:00 to 10:00 and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00, Graveside services at Grandview Memorial Park at 11:30am. A reception will follow at St. Mary’s.
