Hand, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 1st, 2017. Charles was born in McDade, Louisiana August, 1926, to Ed Lisso and Mamie Hand. Dr. Hand is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mamie Dee Trout. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Evelyn Hand; sons, Charles Hand and his wife, Elisa, Randy Hand and his wife, Sandy, Greg Hand and his husband, Rory; brother, Henry “Hap” Hand and his wife, Andrea; grandchildren, James “Skip” Patterson, and his wife, Nicole, Kendra Allen and her husband, Lee, Ashley Compean and her husband, Josh, and Adam Hand; great grandchildren, Karly, Mason, Kynleigh, and Mia; and a host of other family and friends.Dr. Hand attended Texas A&M University and was a member of the A&M Corps. He left college after his freshman year to join the Air Force during World War II. When Charles was honorably discharged from the service in 1946 he began attending Texas A&I College to pursue an Industrial Art teaching degree. In his final year of teaching studies, Dr. Hand was informed that he had been accepted to The University of Texas Dental School. He completed a Doctorate in Dental Surgery in June 1955. After graduating, Charles taught at the dental college for one year before beginning his private practice in Houston in 1957. Dr. Hand loved his patients as much as he loved his job. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career and retired after fifty-five years of practice at the young age of 85.Dr. Hand’s favorite pastimes in life were leather working, drawing, hunting, and fishing. His greatest sources of joy in life were time with his family, grandkids, great grandkids, and his dog Bella.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in the name of Charles Hand to “Happy Hill Farms” (3846 N. Highway 144, Granbury, TX 76048) or “Mission of Hope” Haiti, please make donations to Crosspoint Church (1134 Old Alvin Rd. Pearland, TX. 77581) and designate Mission of Hope, / Charles E. Hand – Memorial.A celebration of life service for Dr. Charles Hand will be held Saturday, May 13th, at 11:00 am with Pastor Tom Allen officiating. A reception will follow the services at the church.
