He is also survived by father-in-law Herb Barrier, brothers-in-law Bud, Jeff and Chuck Barrier, and adoring nieces and nephews. He was lovingly known as “Pappa Don” to his adopted family, the Gibson’s: Wayne, Lana, Brance, Abigail, Anthony, and Emilee. He was deeply loved by a host of other family and friends.
Don is best described as a man who was genuine, witty, and incredibly generous. He was a man of strong faith who lived out his beliefs in a tangible and impactful way. The hallmark of his life is the countless deep relationships that he has left behind. Don had a heart for youth and demonstrated this passion in several ways. He helped start the original Bus Ministry at First Baptist Church Pearland. He began a Cambodian youth ministry, and he later provided refuge to youth who were troubled and needed support. He was a counselor, mentor, confidant and friend to many.
Don started his career as a pipe fitter, but then found a passion in building green houses, growing plants and eventually became a notable florist in Pearland. After the florist business, he began growing hydroponic vegetables, leading into the opening of Carbone’s Produce and a wholesale produce company. Upon retirement, Don helped others reach their goals through Advocare. He also enjoyed flipping houses, and investing in real estate endeavors with his son. He was an active member of New Hope Church, loved volunteering, leading a Care Group, and building relationships with others. He was a man with deep commitments to his family, and he was always searching for ways to help people in his life. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
The pallbearers include Bud Barrier, Jeff Barrier, Chuck Barrier, Mickey Canalito, Joey Vitale, Paul Darden, Wayne Gibson, Scott Barrier, and Brent Wheeler. His honorary pallbearers will include all of his friends in the New Hope Care Group.
