Joseph Lawrence "Joe" Brewton's Obituary
Joseph (Joe) Lawrence Brewton went home to be with our Lord on September 17, 2016 at his home in Pearland, Texas. A native Houstonian, he was born to Joe and Estherbell Brewton on December 16, 1944. He graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School in southeast Houston. He obtained a B.S. and M.A. in Geology from The University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, he served in the Texas Air National Guard. In 1968 he married the love of his life, Karen Brewton nèe Anderson.
Joe began a 40-year career in the oil and gas exploration field in Ponca City, Oklahoma before moving to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1978. After 21 years in Lafayette, he returned to Houston. He spent the last 25 years of his career with Subsurface Consultants and Associates (SCA). While working for SCA, Joe taught professional technical schools to geologists, geophysicist, and geo-engineers, both nationally and internationally.
Joe was a lifelong outdoorsman. He passed his love of hunting and fishing on to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather. Joe was also a passionate football fan, win or lose he was a Longhorn fan through and through.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Estherbell Brewton and his beloved brother, George Brewton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen Brewton; daughter Jessica Brown and husband Daniel; daughter Laura Roberts and husband Mark; grandchildren Elijah, Jacob, and Daniella Brown, and Clara Roberts; and his sister-in-law Jean Brewton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Moon Shots Program and the Head for the Cure Foundation. A visitation and funeral service for Joe will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland Texas 77581. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Christy Conway officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
