You may not know me, but my name is Devon. I met Tanisha in 11th grade at Village. Although I met her late in high school, she ended up becoming one of my most trusted friends and, frankly, a mentor. We met while I was competing on the Mock Trial team at Village, and from the beginning, she was a joy. She was always making jokes and having that sarcastic tone that I have come to love, and was the heart and soul of our team. My personal favorite memory came on competition day when I decided to be vulnerable and truthful and tell her my anxiety about the round. She took the time to sit and truly listen to me, helping me understand that I was more than just my performance and to believe in my abilities. That's what I came to admire most about her. She was always selfless and could see what a person truly needed at that time in their life. She was honest, but caring, and just made you feel seen. Even when coming to UT Austin, she continued to be a good friend and guide me through challenges and ALWAYS made sure to stay in contact and help with any questions I had. For that, Tanisha, the lessons you taught me will never be forgotten. I continue to pray for the family and all her other friends.
